Sophie Hahn's Gold Coast goal
She may already have multiple Paralympic, world and European wins to her name, but Sophie Hahn remains highly motivated by the thought of completing the set of titles in Australia next month.
The 21-year-old is the reigning T38 100m champion at each of those events, while she also won 200m gold at the World Para Athletics Championships in London last summer.
Pleased with her winter training, Hahn opened her season with a 60m PB of 8.09 in Loughborough before further improving to 7.95 at the Müller Indoor Grand Prix in Glasgow. She then began her outdoor campaign with a 200m win in 26.96 at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai and is looking forward to seeing what else the coming months have in store.
“I feel in really good shape,” she says. “I feel like my winter has gone exceptionally well on the track and in the gym.
“I’ve been training really hard to make sure I add the Commonwealth title and then I will have had all the titles. I’m just going to give it everything I’ve got over there.”
Hahn, who is the T38 world record-holder with her respective 100m and 200m PBs of 12.44 and 26.11, will contest the shorter sprint when she makes her Commonwealth Games debut.
“I’ve never represented Team England,” says the Joe McDonnell-coached sprinter. “It’s going to be a new experience and I just can’t wait to go to the Gold Coast.
“My aim is to win the gold – I’m not too worried about the time. As long as I cross the line first, that’s all I care about!”
With two major championship goals this year, Hahn also has medal-winning ambitions for the World Para Athletics European Championships in Berlin in August.
“When I get back from the Commonwealths I’ll still have competitions to do and then we’ll pick up training even more to be ready for the Europeans,” she explains.
“I’d love to retain my European title. To come away as Commonwealth and European champion, that’s what I’m aiming for this year.”
