The Hurricane 23 is Saucony's statement stability shoe. An everyday workhorse of a shoe that delivers a responsive, energized ride. It features a guidance frame to keep you stable and feet facing the right way!
The deep PWRRUN+ foam is responsive and delivers a very well cushioned and comfortable ride.
the frame helps guide the foot and coupelled with the supportive upper, it does a good job at this, however, as with the Brooks Glycerin GLS 19, we feel that it is better suited to those requiring some support rather than those with more significant Motion Control issues.
The upper features a mixture of weaves in a structured network to help support an unstable foot. There are some nice touched like some suede on the tongue and reflective stitches which adds to that lux feel. Breathability is very good an the collar is padded and really comfortable.
A chevron pattern of rubber gives traction on road and aids the smooth ride. A guidance grove runs the length of the shoe to help stability and the relative lack of flex groves in the forefoot supports the notion that the Hurrican is built for cruising and not speed.
The soft, responsive nature of the midsole is not stable enough for serious over pronators and this is where Saucony and some other brands find itself - wanting to deliver plush riding comfort vs delivering really effective motion control support.
That said, the Hurricane is a very nice place to be in when logging up the miles. The cushioning is responsive, protective and the shoes soak up the miles. Saucony quality uppers fit great and in this case, help support the foot. The guidance frame keeps your feet straight without feeling restrictive, so a very good shoe for those requiring some stability and we think the shoe would also work well for the heavier runner.
