First impressions

The Saucony Guide 14 continues in the tradition of combining lightweight responsive cushioning with stabilizing elements to give those among us who need it, a great combination for everyday running.

A PWRRUN midsole is slightly softer and lighter than previous Guide 14 midsoles which is a great improvement for this model. The midfoot 3/4 TPU post is welded to the outside of the EVA to ensure a degree of stability without causing any intrusion. Overall, the support is sufficient for a lighter runner or a moderate pronator, but it is not enought for a heavy overpronator as the support is mostly superficial.

Saucony's guideance frame on the upper offers a little more lock down throught the midfoot, by having a printed overlay over the quarters of the shoe that integrate into the lacing system to work in tandem together. The forefoot is an engineered lightweight air mesh that is seamless and breathable, and the internal heel counter is solid and supportive to prevent any heel slippage.

Lots of blown rubber reduces the weight but limits the durabilty, but becasue this is a shoe aimed at runners who want lightweight support, the overall durabilty is more than sufficient. There is a lot of the runner cored out to take away weight and aid flexibility but the coverage is sufficient enough to make sure this is a high mileage, long run shoe.

This is a lightweight cushioned shoe that is very responsive at a variety of paces, but thanks to the TPU medial post there is a good amount of guideance built into the midsole to offer a degree of protection against over pronation that is severly lacking in many shoes with very soft midsoles on the market today.

Go for the Hurricane if you want more support and look tot he Hoka Arahi for an alternative.
