Asics have always offered very decent trail shoe options from very high tech models to really good, functional models offering exceptional value for money.
The Gel-Trabuco sits at the core of its off-road offering and this version 9, features a number of changes to the previous model.
Rugged comfort is how Asics describe the shoe which features its flytefoam / gel midsole tech along with some stability features to aid on uneven terrain.
A number of Asics technologies make up this midsole. Its comfortable Flytefoam incorporates Gel for impact protection. It is nicely cushioned withough felling overly soft. The model is also equipped with the Duomax support system: fire density foam on the medial side of the foot to slow down the rate of pronation.
A tough, durable mesh is comfortable while offering the support you need. The mesh is tough, tightly knitted but it's also light weight. The upper features a solid heel counter to lock you in and has the added benefit of a toe bumper.
The lugged grip is configured to offer traction up and down hills. Helpfully, Asics have added a rock protection plate in the shoe to protect from stones and other sharp materials digging in to the foot. The grip works well across most surfaces.
A very good comprehensive package of comfort, durability and grip. The rock place is also a nice touch and welcome on rocky terrain. It is well cushioned but the Flytefoam also makes it feel responsive and you can certainly run long in these shoes. The Duomax also offers a certain level of security as well. If you're looking for a trail shoe for everyday off-road conditions, add the gel Trabuco 9 to you list of contenders.
