First impressions

The Asics Gel Cumulus 18 features Rearfoot and ForeFoot GEL Cushioning System for strike-specific shock attenuation to create smoother transitions. The FluidRide Midsole technology provides neutral runners with enhanced comfort and a spring-loaded ride when running longer distances. Take a look at Nike’s Pegasus for as an alternative.

First Impressions? Some tag this as an entry level shoe but pick it up and to be honest it feels much more than that. There’s all the cushioning you’d expect and even the quickest glance will tell you there’s loads of Asics technnology to ensure a smooth experience.

As you’ll see from the list below, this shoe is rammed with technology. The bottom line? Underfoot you’ll feel supported and cushioned but as you’ll continually discover with Asics, ‘cushioning’ means a firm responsive ride, not least because of the updated rear and forefoot Gel Cushioning units. Our testers particularly liked the way the shoe allows you to roll off your toes – no accident; it because of the way the shoe is built. It all operates off a 10mm heel to toe drop – comfortable and easy to get along with.

The seamless construction does everything you’d expect from it; our tested felt the shoe was stable and comfortable all at once, although it is worth noting this season’s Asics shoes do tend to come up a little narrower in the past. It’s still a comfortable, non-blistering, very breathable fit.

Love the shoe and love the price. If you don’t need absolutely every last piece of technology Asics has in its armory, then this is a shoe to consider for everyday, cushioned, responsive runs up to and including half marathons.

How was the Cumulus for you? Let us know, we’d love to report your findings.
