Iconic and innovative green Conica surface ready to welcome the continent’s finest at this month’s European Athletics Team Championships

The highlight of this summer’s European Athletics outdoor calendar will be the European Athletics Team Championships First Division. Taking place in the Spanish capital of Madrid, the best 16 countries on the continent will clash over three days of competition, from June 27-29, at the Estadio de Vallehermoso.

Reigning champions Italy will defend the title they won in Silesia two years ago ahead of hosts Spain and former champions Poland and Germany. The competition will be fierce, with teams from Germany, Poland, Spain, Great Britain & Northern Ireland, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Czechia, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland and Greece all contention. They will also be joined by Hungary, Ukraine and Lithuania, who earned promotion to Europe’s top league.

While Madrid (1996) and Málaga (2006) previously hosted the European Cup – the former incarnation of Europe’s premier team competition – this will be the first time Spain will have hosted the event in its current format.

New stories are set to be added to the history of these championships, and they will be written on the distinctive and innovative green track at the Estadio de Vallehermoso, featuring a CONIPUR M system supplied by CONICA, European Athletics’ trusted surface partner.

The CONIPUR M from CONICA is a three-layer system designed for added impact absorption. This reduces injury risk and fatigue, whilst returning more energy back to the athlete.

In other words, this isn’t just any track. It’s a surface engineered for performance, designed to support elite competition while standing up to the demands of weather, wear and world-class use.

“We are thrilled that European Athletics and the Spanish Federation have selected this unique CONICA track at Estadio de Vallehermoso,” says Julio Fernando Fadel, Head of Global Marketing & Communication at CONICA.

“It’s a reflection of the trust placed in our quality, and a true honour to contribute to such an important competition. We look forward to seeing Europe’s best athletes deliver their performances on a track built to support excellence.”
