Spring Run Club aims to share knowledge about the sport with the aim of growing a global movement
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has launched his own running club along with fellow Norwegians Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal, his brothers Filip and Henrik Ingebrigtsen, plus cross-country skier Marthe Kristoffersen.
At the same time, the running brothers are investing in a new company focused on omega-3-based nutrition where they will contribute at least $3 million in development funds to support their goal of creating a global running movement.
The new team is called Spring Run Club, an international running movement open to anyone interested in learning more about running, regardless of experience or skill level.
“We want to share our knowledge and help grow a global running movement, for everyone that loves running,” says Jakob.
The team has this week launched its own digital platform – springrunclub.com – where its athletes will share insights, tips and training sessions with everyone who wants to be part of the movement. Members can also contribute their own experiences and organize group training sessions with like-minded runners.
“There are plenty of forums and running clubs out there," says reigning European half-marathon champion Grøvdal. "What we offer that’s different is direct access to elite athletes with deep experience. We’ll organise group runs and trips to races for all levels – from beginners to seasoned runners. We’ll share workouts, tips and a behind-the-scenes look at our lives as professional runners. I also hope to help inspire and support young girls who love running and want to improve,” she adds.
Jakob adds: “As professional runners, we have received great support from both the federation at the top level and local clubs at the grassroots level. We want to continue collaborating with all of them. But what has been missing is a global community fully dedicated to the craft and science of running. That’s what we’re building now."
The team is also partnering with Norwegian omega-3 producer Smartfish Sports Nutrition AS. The Ingebrigtsen brothers and Spring Run Club are now shareholders in the company, which has committed to investing a minimum of $3 million over time in operational funding to support the development of the running team.
The partnership between Spring Run Club, the Ingebrigtsen brothers, and Smartfish Sports Nutrition aims to develop product lines tailored to various performance levels – from world-class athletes to recreational runners.
“We want to do this properly – with partners who share our vision and offer products and services that support performance, recovery, and the joy of sport,” says Jakob.
“We have multiple European champions on the team – and two old and soon abattoir-ready racehorses with countless miles in their legs, Henrik and Filip. But we also want to welcome those who’ve only just considered taking up running and haven’t yet taken that first step. My goal is to lower the barrier to joining a group interval session. We have room for everyone, and wherever we host running events, everyone should be able to find someone to run at their pace."
The team is hosting its first public training session on Wednesday afternoon in Voldsløkka in Oslo ahead of the Diamond League the following day.
