Podium 5km (Inc British Masters Championships), Barrowford, November 7

Scottish M35 Mark Doherty had his biggest win to date as his 15:08 PB gave him a narrow win over Matthew Lalor’s 15:11.

Third overall was Mark Walsh and his 15:12 sealed the BMAF M40 title.

Elizabeth Renondeau who last year won the BMAF cross-country title, won a further title here as she sealed W40 gold in 17:19 and she was chased in by W35 winner Claire Clancy’s 17:27 PB.

Close behind in third Renondeau’s Cheshire Dragon team-mate Joanna Marsden won W40 silver in 17:28 to match her position from last year’s cross-country when she had only been a second behind Renondeau.

W55 Sara Avery was the pick of the older women’s age groups with a 18:30 clocking.

Monica Williamson won a good quality W60 section in 19:18 while all-time Masters great Angela Copson, who next year enters the W75 category with plenty of potential records, easily won the W70 title here in 23:37.

The M45 winner was Carl Jones whose 15:37 gave him a three seconds win over Jan Bailey.

In the older men’s age groups Jon James impressed with a M55 win in 16:22 ahead of Steve Watmough’s 16:41 which was quicker than M50 champion Gavin McDermott’s 16:44.

It was a highly competitive M60 section with Northern Ireland’s Dave Clarke (16:57) just getting the better of Wales Ifan Lloyd (17:00) and England’s Chris Cooke (17:01).

Alastair Walker who is among the contenders for Athletics Weekly’ Masters athlete of the year award won the M65 title by 49 seconds in 18:03.

David Oxland was even more dominant in the M70 section as his 19:35 gave him gold by well over two minutes.

Dave Moorekite, who sixty years ago was a prolific goalscorer for Maidstone United and was once on the books of West Ham United, was first over 80 in 26:18.

Unleashed Performance Reading Half-Marathon, November 7

Omar Ahmed was a clear men’s winner in 62:14 with Paulos Surafel (63:18) and Joshua Grace (65:14) completing the top three men.

Philippa Bowden took two minutes off her Great North Run PB with a 73:29 clocking for her best run since her big PB in finishing fifth in the European Cup 10,000m in 2018 and this was her biggest win to date.

Naomi Mitchell was second in 74:25 and Michelle Pearson was third in 74:42.
